Honkaku Shochu and Awamori are versatile liquors that excel in both their traditional serving methods and contemporary cocktails. Here are a few ways that you can easily try at home.


Honkaku Shochu and Awamori can be drunk straight.
Any kind of glass will do - it's up to you. A wine glass, perhaps? In summer, put the bottle in fridge or freezer and enjoy it thoroughly chilled.

On The Rocks

As with whisky, this is the standard method. Pour on ice and enjoy the fresh, cool taste. Instead of cube ices, you may pour it onto crushed ice - in which case it is called Mist, cool!!

Diluted with Hot Water (Oyuwari)

This is the most popular way to drink Honkaku Shochu in its region of production. Pour hot water first in ceramic cup/bowl and add Honkaku Shochu. Natural convection currents allow the hot water and Honkaku Shochu to mix naturally and a rich aroma is created.

Diluted with Cold Water (Mizuwari)

This is a popular way to consume these liquors. Even after dilution, you can still enjoy the distinct flavour.
